Dreams

When a child is born, every little thing it needs is also born along with it. The child can listen, respond through their actions, they eat and then they sleep. This is what a life of the child is. What most of the grown up doesn’t notice is that their DREAMS while they sleep. Children do dream like us but more in a creative way. A Dream is born, when the child experiences a good thing like having fun with her family or a bad thing like seeing a horror movie for the first time.

From the day we were born till we die, dreams are part of our lives. Dreams are vivid and sometimes so realistic, it makes you feel like you are actually present there. Thinking about the world of dreams is fascinating. You can do all the things that you thought it would be impossible to do. Like getting into an unrealistic situation and obtaining that one supernatural power you have always wanted in your life. There are things which cannot be possible in your real life, but in your dreams, anything you think of is possible.

When we were a kid, our mind would have been the most active one and curious about every little thing we have seen and eagerly wanting to show that creativity we had to our elder ones. That resulted in shaping our dream in a creative way that our mind had processed the whole day. I have always fascinated a child’s dream. I once asked my 5 year old cousin about the dream she had that day. She told me with a sparkling eyes “I was flying in my dream like ‘woosh and soosh’ and also I was wearing a green dress with a cap that had a feather that looked so pretty on me” After listening to her I realized that it was the effect of ‘Peter Pan‘ movie she watched the previous night. Unlike us, a child’s dream is all about what they see and listen to but in a creative way.

As you grow up, you are not left alone in this world. There will be circumstances in which you need to face your different levels of fears. And you may experience anxiety and insecurities that creates some unforgettable moments in your life and there will be certain things that you wanted to do in your life but never did because of the insecurities you have within yourself and that may make you feel powerless. These might be among the few other things that becomes a nightmare during your sleep. A nightmare is a dream which you don’t like because you are scared of it. Usually the dream occurs during your REM sleep (Rapid-eye movement).

In a survey that I took, 32.7% of people, remember their dreams after they wake up and 61% of people remember the dream they had but most of the time they tend to forget it. And 4.1% people feel like they have no dreams at all. First of all, every person and even animals have dreams. The feeling of not having any dreams at all, may be because of your irregular sleeping cycle or you tend to wake up in a very stressful way that makes you concentrate more on that particular thing. Thus, resulting in forgetting that you had one. Usually, an effective dream occurs during your REM sleep (Rapid-eye movement) which falls around 1 am to 4 am.

A part of me always believed that dreams are not only a Pictionary part of our experience, but also they try to convey something to us something. The below list of dreams and their percentages are from my own survey.

One of the most common dreams that people say they have is “I see myself in a dream“. Almost 74% of them have a dream of this type. Definitely, we are concerned about ourselves in most of the situation, but seeing your doppelganger in your dream (i.e. seeing yourself as a third person) could mean that you are really concerned about yourself about something that you care about. This generally is considered to have negative implications in your life. You might be unhappy with the decision you have made recently or it could be a warning that you are in danger. Seeing your reflection in your dream could mean that you are assessing your behavior. If you are seeing yourself as a child it indicates that your actions are being so immature. Also, it could mean that you are feeling vulnerable and you seek unconditional love.

The second common dream is seeing dead people. Almost 24% of people have this nightmare. In some cases it might not be a nightmare. Not always a dead person comes in your dream to scare you, this person might be your dearest friend or one from your family trying to comfort you in a way they could. Or sometimes they appear due to the regrets you hold on this person. If you see a living person dead in your dream, it means you need not worry about him/her. If many dead people come in your dream, it means you are facing a lot of troubles or it could also mean that you may get into trouble. So, next time when you find a dead person in your dream, try to analyze why they were there in your dream.

The third common dream is about natural disasters. About 22% has this kind of dream. Natural disasters like Volcanoes, Tsunami, Earthquake, Tornado, Hurricane or an Asteroid falling refers to a separate situation about your life. A volcanic eruption indicates that you have been holding back your feelings or anger for too long and you are ready to erupt for that reason. Tsunami for instance, is all about your emotional well-being or it’s just you have seen a movie or you might have been affected by this event. When it comes to your emotions, a dream like this could mean that your heart is filled with grief and sorrow and you require attention. Earthquake or a Tornado means that you are facing a financial situation like losing your job or being in debt. Having meteors, comets or asteroids in your dream could imply that you are soon to start a new beginning or you might have undergone some life-changing events recently and there, so you have experienced this kind of dream.

Are you the person who always runs in your dream? Then it could mean just two things. Either you are chasing a goal or you are just trying to escape from something in your life.

A dream about your tooth falling or breaking into pieces, is a painful one even if it’s in your dream. It means you could lose your relationship with your dearest one. It also symbolizes that you regret something you have said. Or it could mean that you lack self-esteem. Just remember that breaking or falling off a tooth in a dream could only mean of negative things happening or will happen in your life.

One of the common dreams which most people experience is falling in a dream. When you have this dream, your body experiences a hyper jerk where you will be swaying between consciousness and unconsciousness and you suddenly wake up. Just because you are falling in your dream, don’t come to a conclusion that having this dream means your life is falling apart. It simply means that you have a feeling of being out of control in some aspect of your life.

Apart from all these dreams, one of the interesting comments which I found in my survey was that Premonition dream and Déjà vu dream. A premonition dream means a dream that predicts the future event. Whereas, a Déjà vu dream is repeating your life event in your dream. Déjà vu in a dream is common because you sometimes wish that having this same event again would be nice and that would appear as a dream. But a premonition dreams, often feel very real and shows you specific people or an event or sometimes including places. If that particular event happens in your real life, you feel like a Déjà vu. Strange, isn’t it? Well, what can I say, that’s how dreams and reality work!

One of the movies you would have remembered when you saw the word ‘Dreams’ might have been “Inception“. The movie was released in the year 2010 which was beautifully scripted and directed by “Christopher Nolan“. One wouldn’t have thought they could do so many things in a dream before this movie came. I, myself, had tried to build my own town or a city in my dream after seeing this movie. But that’s not how it works. It is possible to have control of your dream, but not entirely possible. You can identify that you are dreaming. And some can even control their dream. Most of all, the dream world is a window to your emotions and your spiritual body. Only you know how to analyze these dreams because you know yourself better than anyone.

One of the dreams by which I got disturbed during my childhood was the dream of chocolates. Normally, children loves candy. But in dream it was quite a lot of candy’s (all over in my room) drowning me down. Maybe I was over obsessed about things in my childhood.

A dream of Candy’s!! Wow.. A different kind of nightmare, I guess. And what you have told is correct. That would had been the effect of obsession. A thing which you like becomes a nightmare, that’s a different feeling.
